Where in the world is Joe?

I’m a writer and communications pro who loves to tell stories and outline marketing strategies. Working on a long-running memoir project based on growing up in Washington, DC, in the last decade I’ve danced around the world as a dad and a wordsmith.

Mrs. Gladys Roy was strong like steel, stern but full of love in a way that made you know she cared about you. A public housing professional, she helped the residents of the government-owned Kenilworth Courts complex “do it themselves,” as they turned their neighborhood around through tenant empowerment and a lot of hard work. She reared 9 children while looking out for all the community’s kids, earning the nickname “The Kool Aid Lady” because she’d always have something cold and sweet for you to drink. Her life was never easy, yet still she gave to others even when she barely had any time or energy for herself. Mrs. Roy is a woman who I, and many others who have lived in Kenilworth, truly admire.
